Marisa Hernandez
College of Humanities
Marisa is a first-generation college student majoring in Psychology, Mexican American Studies,
and Spanish with an emphasis in Translation and Interpretation. Born and raised in Tucson,
Marisa values communication and cultural identity as forms of empowerment and is committed
to education and representation. For Marisa, her name carries her family, culture, and belief
that where you come from is the foundation for success.
Through this internship, Marisa hopes to apply what she has learned to real-world issues that
affect border communities and to continue giving back to the place that raised her. Also, she
hopes to strengthen her skills in community engagement, cultural research, and bilingual
communication, and to gain experience in how advocacy and education intersect in border
communities.
Marisa will work at Coalición de Derechos Humanos during the Spring.
