Southwest Center

A research unit of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Arizona, the Southwest Center has a threefold mission: to sponsor and facilitate research on the Greater Southwest, to publish exemplary work growing from that research, and to act in service to citizens of the region through programs of teaching and outreach. In all three areas special emphasis is given to strengthening individual and institutional ties to our colleagues at universities and cultural centers in the Republic of Mexico.

Galeria Mitotera is a Latinx/Queer owned gallery located in the City of South Tucson, Arizona. Co-Owners, Mel Dominguez & Melissa Brown-Dominguez opened Galeria Mitotera in July 2018 as a space to celebrate their culture, uplift artists of color in the community and create a safe space for community members and artist to inspire one another through art and togetherness. Galeria Mitotera was founded through the growth of Mel Dominguez’s full time art career. We’re inspired by the nontraditional and we believe that art should have no boundaries. The galería curates, showcases, and sells art made by incredible creatives from Arizona and across the border.

Established by artists in 1997, MOCA is Tucson’s only museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art from around the globe. Housed in a repurposed firehouse in Downtown Tucson, MOCA Tucson applies creative solutions to the problems of today and tomorrow through the vehicle of contemporary art. We create programming that is ambitious, innovative, and that is responsive to the wants and needs of our community. A pioneering museum of its kind in the community, MOCA Tucson currently hosts rotating exhibitions by locally, nationally, and internationally renowned contemporary artists—critical exhibitions that spur dialogue and that foster empathy between artists and audiences. Our bold programming is highly engaging for diverse audiences and creates a welcoming, inviting space for visitors to learn more about the changing world we live in. MOCA Tucson is an important incubator and connector for contemporary art across the Southwest region and beyond.
