Hiram Peña Bonilla

Project Manager: Fronteridades

For the last 16 years, Hiram has developed and managed education and research projects in sustainable regional development. Before moving to Tucson in December 2015, Hiram worked at the binational nonprofit organization Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans, CEDO in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. At CEDO, Hiram advocated for communities and created productive and long-lasting partnerships resulting in a better understanding and use of natural resources. In January 2018, Hiram joined the Agnese Nelms Haury Program in Environment and Social Justice at the University of Arizona. There, he worked closely with community and university members, managing a granting program and advancing solutions to social and environmental issues in the Southwest.

 

In September 2022, Hiram joined the University of Arizona's Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry as the Project Manager for Fronteridades: Nurturing Collaborative Intersections in the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands. In this new position, Hiram will collect the narratives, stories, art, and effects of those from and crossing through the US-Mexico border and share them with local and non-local audiences. He will also expand border learning opportunities for scholars and interested people across fields and disciplines. Hiram holds a Master's in Development Practice from the University of Arizona.
