Jadwiga Pieper Mooney (History) joined forces with Fabio Lanza (History and East Asian Studies) and Elizabeth Oglesby (Geography and Regional Development and Center for Latin American Studies) to host a 4-day conference titled “De-Centering Cold War History: Street-Level Experiences and Global Change.” They published selected presentations in a book (De-Centering Cold War History: Local and Global Change Routledge, 2012) which focused on cutting-edge research in the study of the Cold War.
“Overall, the book does keep to its promises. It delivers an addition to the current debate by providing a vivid image from outside the mainstream. It is a detailed, comprehensive, and multi-focal gathering of perspectives on the Cold War. What is striking, at the end, is that the book actually goes beyond its aims and beyond building its case starting from the plausibility of the main argument. Even though unwillingly and with minimal intentionality, the most innovate feature of the book comes from the fact that it opens the question of 'What follows post-revisionism?', and in doing so, the book does become a valuable contribution to the existing literature.”
