Chavalxs
Chavalxs is a collaborative community-based artistic project that focuses on creating spaces of reflection through photography to confront and reconstruct narratives and therefore the realities of young people from rural areas near the border between Mexico and the U.S. Through a multidisciplinary process using audiovisual media, archives, objects, performative and collaborative strategies, Alejandra’s work explores the intersections between territory, body, representation and identity. Her intention is to turn memory into a living archive that amplifies our voice through time and helps resist the realities of late capitalism. Chavalxs was on exhibition at Centro Cultural Azul Arena in Ciudad Juárez.
Alejandra Aragón was part of the Photography Seminar of the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City in 2017 and received the Mexican FONCA young creators grant in 2018. She was a member of the Joop Swart Master Class 2020 and nominated for the Oskar Barnack award in 2021. Aragón was awarded the Border Narrative Change Grant by the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures in 2021. She was the winner of the first Latin American award from the Sony World Photography Awards in 2022. That same year she entered the National System of Creators of Mexico.
Chavalxs
Chavalxs es un proyecto artístico, comunitario y fotográfico, enfocado en crear espacios de reflexión que confrontan y reconstruyen narrativas sobre la realidad de los jóvenes residentes en comunidades rurales de la frontera México-Estados Unidos. A través de un proceso multidisciplinario y haciendo uso de medios audiovisuales, archivos, objetos, y estrategias performativas y de colaboración. Aragón explora la intersección entre territorio, cuerpo, representación e identidad. Su propósito es transformar la memoria en un archivo latente que amplifica las voces a través del tiempo y se opone a las realidades del capitalismo contemporáneo. Chavalxs se exhibe en el Centro Cultural Azul Arena en Ciudad Juárez, del 22 de abril al 3 de junio del 2023.
Alejandra Aragón formó parte del seminario de fotografía del Centro de la Imagen en la Ciudad de México en el 2017. En 2018 recibió la beca de jóvenes creadores del FONCA. Aragón fue miembro de Joop Swart Master Class en el 2020 y nominada para el premio Oskar Barnack en el 2021. Recibió el Border Narrative Change Grant a través de National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) en el 2021. Ese mismo año imgresó al Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte en México (SNCA).
