Dr. Javier Durán appointed as Co-President for global humanities consortium, CHCI
We are thrilled to share that Confluencenter Director, Dr. Javier Durán has been selected to serve as Co-President for the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI), a global forum that strengthens the work of humanities centers and institutes through advocacy, grant-making, and inclusive collaboration.
‘’I am delighted and honored to take part in this opportunity to serve as co-president for an organization that prioritizes the future of the humanities,” Durán said. “Confluencenter has been an active CHCI member and proponent for diverse and interdisciplinary thought since our beginning in 2011.”
Dr. Durán and Dr. Darryl Harper from Amherst College, current CHCI Board members, will co-preside and lead the consortium over the next year. Stephen Best, Director of University of California Berkeley’s Townsend Center for the Humanities, will become CHCI President for a six-year term in July 2023.
“We are excited for our joint efforts to continue advancing CHCI including the preparation of our 2023 Annual Meeting in Chile, our ongoing efforts to provide greater support to and involvement of the membership and its networks in our programs, and the development of our DEI initiative with a focus on inclusivity within the membership and our current and future programs,” Durán added.
CHCI currently has a membership of more than 260 organizations in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Pacific Rim. Its membership includes humanities centers at small, medium, and large colleges and universities, community colleges, independent scholarly societies, research libraries, and other institutes of advanced study.
