The Mellon-Fronteridades Faculty Fellowships program invites proposals for interdisciplinary research projects from University of Arizona faculty who are seeking to broaden and deepen our understanding of the narratives, experiences, knowledges, histories, performances, spaces and heritages that shape and are shaped by the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. Fellows will develop projects that explore, analyze, and elevate the lived experiences and cultural resources of this region. Fellowships foster and promote UArizona faculty scholarship and creative activities, and create new ways for understanding border dynamics in Arizona-Sonora communities.

The broader aim of this program is to advance the mission of the University of Arizona Border Lab and position the University of Arizona as a global leader in border research and learning. For this reason, proposals must assign projects to one or more of the following focus areas of the Border Lab and must include a clear statement of how the proposed initiative advances the goals of Border Lab initiative:

  1. Research: innovative research products/activities/initiatives (e.g., corpus, digital research tools, researcher networks) that build on and elevate the university’s community of border researchers and relationships between the university and the borderlands community.
  2. Pedagogy: interdisciplinary, multi-modal border curriculum and pedagogical materials that integrate impactful learning opportunities into the university’s course offerings.
  3. Creative Activity: creative products, activities, events, that center the experience and narratives of borderland communities.

Faculty Fellowships support projects during the 5 month period of May 15 - Oct 15, 2021. Confluencenter is currently accepting proposals from UArizona faculty, due March 20, 2021. Learn more and apply here.
